With a fiber-/needle-pad or better wit an active fixing-pad (as described in my comment) per leg your bots could crawl on steep surfaces or even upside down, when they aren't to heavy

If you want, i can send you some pieces of the fixing-strip - i bought them 10 years ago in my local tool-store, but it seems they aren't in the market any more ...

Hi Matt,

I recently came across your video on YouTube of the CNC Hexapod and could not believe my eyes. If you can get it to cut or draw while walking then it would have an unlimited cutting area and I would have to get one the second the kit becomes available.

I would imagine the fairly obvious answer to that is, yes. From recollection of the video, the hex's feet aren't bolted down to the surface it's cutting, merely stood there while it jigs around using it's head as the cutter... Can't see any reason why the hex couldn't move a short distance, then carry on. Can't imagine the accuracy to be that grand, however

It would be possible to machine an area, then move to another location and start machining, however, if you wanted to join the segments together, as Jaspinall points out, the accuracy would not be good enough using dead reckoning, you would need some kind of overhead vision system or accurate positioning.

I have really enjoyed seeing your router video. I am a machinist with my own business and have followed the development of hexapod machining for several years. I must say that I like your robot very much, I like the design and look of the machine and I think your demonstration is very interesting. I am sure that in a near future something like this will be used for many things. I wish you good luck with your business and look forward to seeing continual improvement in your robot.

Yes, I would love to but for now I could use a stationary robot arm with a router endeffector to cut out 3D forms. Of course its not as cool as a walking router...
