Ponoko

I found THIS site recently - not actually had time to price up costs, but they claim to be pretty cost effective and they have a good range of 'plastic' materials - including orange acrylic and delrin.

Looks like it'd be possible to design something in illustrator (for example), drop it onto one of their cutting templates, upload it, pay and wait for the postman.

@Matt is this a cheaper way of prototyping the bug body for hitec servos than your current method?
Would it be a way to reduce kit costs - as you could sell direct from the ponoko site?

Hi David,

I haven't checked this site out, but my experience is that they end up being much more expensive than batch runs at a laser cutting specialist. I will however look at costing up some parts :)

I do all my prototyping in house, so it wouldn't help as far as a prototype run. The biggest issue with the µBug kit is the time spent designing... only to have to U turn at the end :(
