Micro Hexapod Kit: MSR-µBug

Orange µBug body parts kit arrived today - a birthday present from my mother in law…

Unfortunately it'll be sitting here for a while until i can afford to get the servos and electronics.

It does however look great and i'd not appreciated just how much smaller than my MSR-H01 it is.

Who said the µBug is designed for one specific servo, the Hitec HS65...
I decided to use those new servos from HK at $1.89... for 20, that makes a difference
Same size, same power but... not same geometry... they don't fit in that funny coxa mount...
After some thinking, I deploy my band saw and make place for that new "orange" servo...
Ok, but I have to check if the pivot is at the right place... not sure... it's not square... may need more space...
Trying to close the whole thing, not enough space... solved with add'l nut on the columns.
Probably the cheapest hexapod in the world

They are designed for one servo type, which is why you have had to hack yours about to fit They may be cheap, but will they last If you look back through this thread I initially designed the uBug with cheaper servos, and was very close to releasing the kit when they started to fail after only moderate use.. but at $1.89 each I guess you can buy a few spares!

Hi,

The final uBug design uses micro sized HS-65HB servos.

The HS-55 servos are micro sized and the HS-225BB are mini sized, they are very different servos, and thus not really comparable.

The type of servo you use VERY much depends on the size and weight of the hexapod you are designing. As mentioned before the HS-65HB is a much smaller servo than the HS-225BB.
