The Hexapod Pet!

quick question regarding files i should try to get face tracking up and running.

my webcam arrived today, stripped it out and installed on my pan/tilt head - the hexapod was also treated to a new turnigy 11.1v lipoly pack and a turnigy switching reg too.

software installed, for both the camera and roboream.

no jumpers on CN18 and serial cable connected to my mac via a serial/usb convertor - i'm running xp in parallels

when i fire up roborealm and "Hexapod_anything_Tracking_V1.robo" (not sure which vbs file to use so tried "Hexapod_BLOB_Tracking_V1.vbs") i'm getting a video feed and when i click on the serial option i can see i'm connected to the hexapod and there's lines of code scrolling in the left hand pane.

however, if i try to wake the hexapod using the configured keys, i can see the status change in the roborealm screen, but my hexa just sits there doing nothing.

just wondering whether i'm missing something particularly obvious - as i think i've got the awkward stuff (camera & serial connection) cracked.

any pointers would be much appreciated.

do you have the p.Brain u24 or the ds24?

your hexapod need to be in PIP CONTROL mode. My u24 defaults to PIP on the Bluetooth connection so I dont need to do anything but turn it on to connect. however I believe you do need to set or do something on the ds24.

check out the last few pages of this thread, they talk about getting the DS24 running in roborealm

I have some more videos!

I managed to sort out my charger and now my batteries are actually outputting maximum Mah so carrying the OQO2 is possible once again!

Ive been letting the little devil roam around the house today without particularly preparing the area for robot invasion to see how it goes. Apart from having problems seeing white objects (thanks to my white floor) it went extremely well!

here is a second video, this time with another camera that can pick up the screen better

Great Work!

It was really useful to see the roborealm view with hexapod overlay! Now that I'm back from my holiday I have a HEAP of work to catch up on :?. However, once I am on top of things I'm straight on to this project.. I'm looking at my logitech camera right now thinking.. hmm where are my small screwdrivers... nope.. stay focused.. work first! ;)

just remember, the longer you wait, the more I will have added to it!

i will be working on getting my hexapod to identify a pair of legs and look up then switch to a "face finding" pipeline and track faces. but first theres the whole leg finding bit lol. I figure look for 2 thick parrallel blobs (legs) and 2 small blobs (feet) but thats probably easier said than done

Here is the latest Robo file, I ended up working on object avoidance some more so that I could significantly increase its forward speed!

I added Avoidance, basically while moving forward the nearest point influences turning direction to attempt to push the nearest point out towards one edge. The turn force is only 1/4 of maximum so as to not override a strong turn. this combined with more influencial crabbing makes the movement creepy in a good way! Ill do a video once my battery has charged

unfortunately my internet ran out :(

I will be recharging it on the way home tonight and will upload some vids then (I took plenty !)

I have also moved over to using the Image Distributor module in Roborealm, this allows the OQO to simply be a transfer agent (or any on-board system) it now runs Roborealm which sends an image to my desktop machine over wifi, the desktop machine then processes the image and creates the PIP commands which are sent back to the OQO over wireless and then transmitted to the hexengine.

Hey, where can I grab designs of the metallic parts of the hexapod for getting some vinyl prints made up?
